Dear Sheila,
Although the world has lost its greatest entertainer and showman, whom I will miss so very much, I grieve more the world's loss of a great humanitarian, whose heart was as big as the whole planet. No other person has ever had the impact he has had on me and so many other millions across the globe. His sensitivity to others' needs, his compassion, his support, his vision, his hope, his fearlessness, his faith, and his boundless generosity and spirit of giving were all glowing examples of what it truly means to be "humanitarian" - an example for us all to follow.
With his death, a huge groundswell of people from every part of the globe, has emerged, all wanting to continue his mission to heal the world. No one has ever touched the hearts of so many, as Michael Jackson. His ability to bring awareness and caring into the hearts and minds of people of every age, race, religion, nationality... is amazing ! For his messages were universal: take away skin's pigmentation, and you will see, WE ARE ALL THE SAME! Black or white, young, old, rich or poor... we all bleed. And we are all brothers and sisters, co-existing on this one fragile planet - let's love each other, care for one another, and protect our planet Earth! It is our only home!
It has been estimated that in his lifetime, Michael Jackson personally earned $750,000,000 and that he gave to charities about 50% of that!! Imagine the healing that could be done if every celebrity and in fact, every working person, gave half of their salaries to charity the way he did!!
And his charity went beyond mere monetary donations... Countless examples of selflessness can be given when describing Michael's generosity.... In every city in which he performed, a truckload of toys would arrive at an orphanage or children's hospital... gifts from Michael's heart... and he would make a point of spending some time at each place, holding the children, *** them smile, giving them love, for he knew that more important than material things, everyone everywhere needs TLC. He has held people as their souls faded from this world into the next, taking their last breaths in his loving arms... He has brought joy to underprivileged kids and the sick and the dying at his Neverland ranch, giving them all an escape from their strife, and for some, a final moment of happiness in this life.... He has encouraged and inspired people to reach for their dreams, to not give up, to stay in school, to love their children, to keep the faith, to see the beauty of life and to cherish it, to believe in the creator, to give of themselves, to better themselves, to show tolerance, to have acceptance, to forgive, to love, to care, to save the planet!
He used his talent to reach out to the world... his God-given gifts the platform by which to get his message across: treat one another the way you would like to be treated... and heal the world and its people of all its misery and suffering. Look at yourself in the mirror, and look inside your soul, and ask yourself, "What can I do to change the world?"
His words have brought many back to God, filling our souls with a spirituality and hope that not even a Pope could achieve, for he did so, not by force or guilt, but by being a vulnerable person that we all could relate to, and by using the universal language of music. Seeing his suffering with Vitiligo, turning from black to white before our very eyes, and still not wanting to hide from the world... hearing his soft voice, his anguished and heartfelt lyrics, seeing his tender loving personality... showing us the images of the suffering around the world with tears in his eyes... bringing us the awareness that we needed to open our eyes, our minds, our hearts... not even a Mother Theresa could do all that.
Michael did so much for those in need, and he did so quietly... For all the hype that surrounded his musical fame, very little media coverage was ever devoted to his humanitarianism. He went about it, not for ratings, not for personal glory... but because it was the right thing to do.
If ever there was a person who deserved to be recognized for his selflessness and for his enormous humanitarian impact on this Earth to spread the message of love and acceptance and charity, Michael Jackson is that person.
Rest in Peace, sweet Angel. You live in our hearts, and your legacy will live on forever. Your mission will continue through us... we will forever try to heal the world, in your name.
